Volkswagen India witnesses 19.9 percent decline in January 2013

Volkswagen India, the Indian subsidiary of the European auto giant Volkswagen has seen a decline of 19.9 percent in its sales for the month of January 2013. The carmaker sold 4,600 units in the month in comparison to 5,800 units sold in the same month in 2012.

The sales decline of the automaker is in line with the auto sales report of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) which stated that passenger sales in India fell by 12.45 percent in the month of January 2013.

The carmaker is currently focusing on customer responses with a view to boost its sales in India. As part of its customer response initiative, a Volkswagen Lucky 13 campaign was launched in January 2013. An “own a Volkswagen Vento” offer was also launched after the end of the campaign where the buyers could take home a Volkswagen Vento sedan at 50% of its price on dates 14-17 February 2013. The balance amount of the price can be paid by the buyers after a year.
