Hyundai India developing a new small car

South Korean automaker Hyundai’s Indian arm, Hyundai Motor India is in the process of developing a new small car to be launched in the Indian car market. The new hatchback being developed by the second largest car maker and the largest car exporter in India is expected to be positioned between the i10 and the i20 hatchback car models.

According to industry experts, the new car will be equipped with Hyundai’s new 1.1 liter diesel engine which will be manufactured locally at its upcoming engine production facility at Chennai. The production of the new car codenamed as BA is expected to commence in the month of October 2013.

According to the market speculations, the carmaker will create a new car segment in the Indian auto market with launch of the new hatchback.

Mr. Bo Shin Seo Managing Director/CEO Hyundai Motor India commented on the company’s outlook on potential of the Indian car market and stated that the carmaker plans to tap into different car segments in order to maintain and expand its market share. He added that the automaker plans to develop SUVs and MPVs with a view to expand its presence in different segments of the auto market.
