Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL), the wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda has posted car sales growth of 87 percent in the Indian car market. The carmaker sold 3,711 units in November 2012 in comparison to 1,982 units sold in the same month in 2011.
One reason for the significant jump in sales performance for the month is attributable to the low base year of 2011 when the automaker was ravaged by production losses due to floods in Thailand. With its production in India back on track, the Japanese car manufacturer has been able to garner a sales growth of 49 percent in the period April to November 2012 over the sales in 2011 for the same period.
The growth in sales was headed by the Brio hatchback with 2,199 units followed by the City sedan with 1,218 units. The company’s Jazz premium hatchback sold 186 units, while the Civic and the Accord premium sedans sold 72 units and 36 units respectively.
In the month of November 2012, the company exported 326 units to overseas markets.
