Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra increase production

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer and the Indian SUV maker Mahindra & Mahindra have managed to defy the prevailing trends of low car sales despite heavy discounts being faced by most carmakers in the Indian auto industry.

While most carmakers are offering discounts up to 15 percent along with various benefits on existing car models, the two new car models have received much better response with no benefits or discounts and raced ahead of the pack with higher sales and bookings.

Mahindra’s Quanto compact utility car launched in the month of September 2012 and Maruti Suzuki’s new entry level Alto 800 launched in the month of August 2012 have garnered strong sales and demand from customers.

The Alto 800 small car has received more than 35,000 bookings in a period less than a month, while the Quanto compact utility vehicle by Mahindra has posted 10,000 bookings within 2 months of launch. Both the carmakers have been forced to ramp up production of these car models in order to meet the surge in demand.
