Mahindra reports 28 percent increase in sales in May 2012

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), India’s top utility vehicle manufacturer has posted an increase of 28 percent in its total sales for the month of May 2012 selling 43,988 units compared with 34,323 unit sales for the same month in 2011. The company’s domestic sales rose by 24 percent to 39,938 units in May 2012 against 32,159 units in May 2011.

The passenger vehicle sales of the company increased by 27 percent from 16,702 units in May 2011 to 21,154 units in May 2012. The passenger vehicle segment of the company includes utility vehicles and the Verito sedan. The recent price hike in petrol price has resulted in higher demand for diesel powered vehicles and a fall in the sales of petrol car models.

M&M which has a strong diesel car portfolio has therefore benefited from the hike in petrol price with customers flocking towards diesel powered cars.
