Automakers offer discounts up to Rs 50,000 on petrol cars

Anticipating a fall in car sales after the steep hike of Rs 7.54 in the petrol price in India, automobile manufacturers are offering huge discounts of up to Rs 50,000 across petrol car models to sustain and maintain sales growth. The discounts drive is led by the top automakers in India, namely Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor and Tata Motors.

The Alto entry level small car by Maruti Suzuki is now available at a discount of Rs 30,000. Hyundai India has offered up to Rs 3,000 discounts on its range of petrol car models. A discount range of Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 is being offered by Tata Motors on the petro versions of its Indica hatchback and the Indigo sedan.

According to Mr. Mayank Pareek Managing Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) Maruti Suzuki India, the entry level car model sales have plummeted from 25,000-28,000 units in the fiscal 2010-11 to 20,000-22,000 units in the fiscal 2011-12 due to high petrol price. He added that the discount on the Alto small car will continue till end of the month of May. Mr. Pareek stated that discounts in the range of Rs 15,000-Rs 20,000 are also being offered on other petrol models.
