Maruti Suzuki India to save logistics cost from Gujarat plant

Maruti Suzuki India, the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese automaker Suzuki plans to increase exports from its new proposed plant to be set up in Gujarat. The new facility will be conveniently located near the Mundra port which will enable the company to save about Rs 4,000 per car in terms of the logistics cost.

Mr. M M Singh Managing Executive Officer for Production Maruti Suzuki India stated that proximity of the Mundra port from the company’s Gujarat facility will provide a boost in its export business. Moreover, the new 1200 acre facility will focus on manufacturing car models which have high demand in foreign markets. The formal agreement regarding the procurement of land for the new facility will take place in June 2012.

Currently, the A-Star hatchback accounts for about 25 percent of the company’s exports. Other car exports include the Alto and the Zen Estillo compact cars.
