Audi India takes the second spot from Mercedes-Benz

Audi India has taken the second highest spot in the luxury car segment in India pushing Mercedes-Benz to the third spot. Mercedes-Benz being the first among the three German auto manufacturers, others being Audi and BMW, was in the top spot in India till 2009 when BMW overtook it.

The sales figures for the January-March 2012 period are 2,369 cars by BMW at the top, 2,269 cars by Audi at the second and 2,130 cars sold by Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes-Benz has been in India since 1994 but has been facing tough competition since BMW and Audi entered India in 2007. According to industry experts, the sales of BMW and Audi have risen more than Mercedes-Benz due to a younger buyer profile and the contemporary image of BMW and Audi brands along with their multiple sub-segments within the luxury segment.
