American automobile manufacturer Ford has posted a marginal increase in car sales in India in March 2012. The company sold 12,148 units in the month in comparison to 12,063 units sold in March 2011. Ford India’s domestic sales saw a decline of 13.92 percent in March 2012 selling 9,026 units against 10,485 units for the same month in 2011.
The increase in the company’s total sales in India were driven by overseas shipments which increased by 97.85 percent, selling 3,122 units as compared to 1,578 units exported March 2011. According to Mr. Michael Boneham Ford India President and Managing Director, the company has been experiencing steady growth in sales and exports in 2012, March 2012 being the best-selling month ever.
Like many automakers in India, the company had been witnessing a decline in sales in the year 2011 as a result of the sales slowdown in the Indian automobile industry.
