India’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki will launch the multi-purpose vehicle Ertiga on April 12, 2012. The new MPV will be priced in accordance to the Budget 2012-13 and will be available in both petrol and diesel variants. The company targets monthly sales figures of 5,000 units for the seven seater compact MPV.
The Ertiga will be equipped with the newly introduced K-14 VVT 1.4 litre engine for the petrol variant and the 1.3 litre DDiS Super Turbo engine for the diesel variant. The company claims the fuel efficiency of the diesel variant to be 20.77 kmpl. With the launch of the Ertiga MPV, Maruti Suzuki will for the first time enter the high-end multi-purpose vehicle market.
The number of diesel and petrol variants to be produced for the Indian market will also depend on the Budget 2012-13 which will bring the government’s decision on the proposed additional tax on diesel powered passenger cars.
