Maruti Suzuki India’s workers at the company’s Gurgaon facility have demanded a double digit pay hike through the Gurgaon plant workers’ union which consists of 3,000 permanent employees. The last hike in pay for the workers which was seen in 2009 was an increase of about 5-6 percent. The discussions have already begun between the management and the worker’s union at the Gurgaon plant.
Moreover, a worker’s union will be formed by the workers at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar facility and the negotiations with the management for wage hike will follow in the month March 2012. The Manesar’s union will have 1,200 members.
The facility at Manesar has witnessed numerous strikes by workers in 2011 resulting in huge production losses of the company to the count of 1,06,000 cars. Moreover, the loss of production also affected the market share of the company which decreased from about 45 percent to an all time low of 38 percent.
