Hyundai India which has been facing trouble at the production facility at Sriperumbudur regarding labor issues may reach a negotiated settlement with the labor union, namely the United Union of Hyundai Employees (UUHE). According to Mr. K. Dilli Babu UUHE President, the issues with the company management will be settled through talks. The union will hold its first office bearer elections in the month of February 2012.
Hyundai has been making headlines for reasons other than its business operations in India concerning mainly the labor tensions. Moreover, the company until 2011 didn’t recognize the worker’s union as it already had a works committee to address labor issues.
The trade union was registered and affiliated to the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU). But since CITU is the trade union arm of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), the union was not recognized by the company which required the union to be an apolitical body. Thus, in response to that, the United Union of Hyundai Employees (UUHE) had been formed which is now negotiating with the company management for a settlement.
