Fiat Auto on November 4, 2011, launched the new modern looking new generation Fiat Palio in Brazil. The 2012 Palio hatchback comes at a price tag of $17,700 (Rs. 8.76 lacks).
The revamped Fiat Palio is 31 mm wider and 60 mm taller and offers more spacious interiors to the passengers. The hatchback is available in three variants-1.6L E.torQ, Fire 1.4L EVO and Fire 1.0L EVO and is powered by four-cylinder engines namely the 1.6 liter 16v unit which churns out 115 horsepower and 159 Nm of torque, the 1.4 liter which churns out 85 HP and 122 Nm of torque and the 1.0 liter engine which churns out 73 HP and 93 Nm of torque. While E.torQ comes with semiautomatic transmission called Dualogic, the other two variants come with manual transmission.
The company officials in Brazil stated they had put in a lot of hardwork in developing the new model. Introduced for the first time in 1996 in Brazil, Fiat has sold over 2.5 million units of the Fiat Palio there so far. The company also stated as of now it has no plans to introduce this model outside Brazil.
