Maruti Suzuki in spite of facing labour unrest at its Manesar plant, compounded with unsuccessful talks with the trade union, is still concentrating on the production of the new Maruti Swift from its Manesar plant due to high volume of bookings on the car.
As per the last week’s estimates, the company has received 1,08,000 bookings so far. Due to the labour unrest, the company at present rolls out 700 Swift cars every day from its two plants, which is much less than the actual capacity. The new Maruti Swift currently has a waiting period of around five to six months.
To overcome the problem of disruption of the production due to labour unrest, the company has hired 850 new contract workers at its Manesar site. Due to disrupted production, the company has reportedly suffered heavy losses and the company’s sales figures for the third quarter of 2011 are down by 5%, though to boost its sales the company is offering discount on many of its models.
