Jaguar Land Rover to open a new £400m engine plant in UK

Citing an unidentified person familiar with the development, the Sunday Telegraph reported Jaguar Land Rover, the luxury car unit of India’s Tata Motors Ltd, is set to announce its decision to build a 400 million-pound ($631 million) engine plant in the Midlands (U.K). The plant is also expected to create around 2,000 jobs.

It is believed that it will take around two years to build the factory in the i54 business park, near Wolverhampton. According to Professor David Bailey from Coventry University Business School, the company sales are growing at a good pace in Europe and America, and of late as the company is also witnessing an increase in demand from emerging markets like China and India, thus the company needs to increase its production, which has in turn led to the need to build the new engine plant. Professor Bailey also added as these cars are very rugged they can perform well on the roads in India and China.

As per the report, the UK’s coalition government has offered around 10 million pounds of financial support for the JLR plant.

The site for the plant is located just off the M54 motoryway, which facilitates the transportation of engines to plants in the West Midlands and North West. Professor Bailey also expressed that the plant will create ample jobs for skilled workers and skilled automotive engineers.

The carmaker is also considering opening a plant in India.
