Volkswagen to launch new Beetle in India in 2012

Volkswagen has announced its plan to launch the third generation Beetle in India in 2012. The production of the car is already underway at the company’s Mexico manufacturing unit.

While the second generation Beetle was called the New Beetle, the latest model of the Beetle will be called the 2012 Beetle. The company recently unveiled Beetle 2012 in the US and the car is expected to be launched in the Asian market by 2012. The New Beetle was launched in India in 2009 at a price tag of Rs. 24,10,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) and the company has sold 617 units of the car since then.

Recently speaking at the launch of new Jetta in Mumbai, the Member of the Board and Director of Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Neeraj Garg said that the Beetle model which is an iconic model for the company was introduced in India owing to its special status and brand positioning and not to gather sales. Mr. Garg also stated that the company will soon launch the new generation of Beetle in India after launching it in the US.

The Volkswagen Beetle which was for the very first time launched in 1938 was once the highest selling car in the world.
