Nissan Motor India Private Ltd. (NMIPL) on August 3, 2011, unveiled its premium vehicle, the new Nissan Sunny, for the mid size segment in India. The new car, like the Nissan Micra, is based on the V-platform and will be available in the market in the festive season during the month of October, 2011. The production of the new car will take place at the Renault-Nissan facility at Orgadam, near Chennai, says Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, M.D. & CEO, Nissan Motor India. He adds that the company expects to triple its annual sales in India from 13,030 in the year 2010 to 40,000 units in 2011.
The annual production capacity at the Chennai facility is expected to be expanded to 4,00,000 units by the mid 2012. Nissan plans to export half of the total units produced. It is also plans to venture the small car segment and is studying the Indian market for the purpose. A joint venture with Ashok Leyland is also being considered to launch an MPV which is expected to come out by the year 2012. The company plans to expand its dealership network and has scheduled the opening of 100 dealerships by the 2012 year end.
