Maruti Suzuki is set to launch the new model of its Swift on August 17, 2011. The new car will be priced higher than the existing model. Even with a waiting list of about 20,000 customers, the carmaker has currently stopped the production of the old model of Swift to focus on the new model. According to a Maruti official, the hold on the production of the old Swift will significantly affect the sales for the month of July 2011.
Mr. Mayank Pareek, Managing Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales), Maruti Suzuki, told Times of India that the company sales will take a hit in July 2011 but it expects an increase in sales after the launch of the new Swift 2011. Relying on past experience with its WagonR re-launch in April 2010, the company expects the sales to see a considerable push with the fresh launch. At the time of the WagonR re-launch, the sales for the car increased from 10,000 units a month to 14,000-15,000 units a month.
