Maruti Suzuki decides to churn out DZire from its Gurgaon Plant

Maruti Suzuki will shift the production of its largest-selling sedan Swift DZire from its Manesar (Haryana) plant to its Gurgaon (Haryana) plant. The company’s Gurgaon plant which has never witnessed any industrial dispute will undergo lay out changes to accommodate the production of DZire.

According to a company’s spokesperson, Maruti Suzuki will alter the production plans in the second week of July, 2011. While the production of DZire is being shifted to the company’s Gurgaon facility, the company will continue to manufacture its Swift at its Manesar plant. In June, 2011, the company suffered a revenue loss of Rs. 630 crore as its Manesar plant witnessed a 13-day workers’ strike, which arrested the production of Maruti’s Swift and Swift DZire models. Swift DZire which is manufactured only at the company’s Manesar plant currently has a waiting period of six months. The company’s Gurgaon plant produces Alto, WagonR, Estilo, Eeco and Ritz models, besides the older Omni and Gyps. On the other hand the Manesar plant produces the Swift and A-Star hatchbacks and the DZire and SX4 sedans. The Manesar plant had churned out over 300,000 cars in the last fiscal year.

The company was producing the Swift model at its Gurgaon plant till a few months back, but to meet the growing demand of the domestic market, the company decided to shift the production of its Swift and its sedan version DZire to its Manesar unit. As per the company’s new plan the company will manufacture DZire at its Gurgaon plant only, while Swift will be manufactured at the Company’s Manesar plant.
