Toyota is currently working out the logistics of manufacturing the diesel variant of its sedan Etios, as stated by a company official recently. The driving force behind this decision is the soaring prices of petrol and the consumers growing preferences for the diesel cars.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s Vice President (Sales and Dealer development division) Sailesh Shetty stated that the company has on its cards to introduce the diesel variant of its Etios. The company first wanted to establish itself in the market with Etios and Liva, and then based on the market demand the company will put its plan into action.
During an informal interaction with PTI, Mr. Shetty after unveiling Etios Liva in Chennai stated that the company would consider churning diesel engines for Liva once their engine plant became operational. The company is currently upgrading its Bangalore facility for manufacturing Etios and engines for all other models by investing around Rs. 3,200 crore in it.
The company currently retails its premium sedan Altis, SUV Innova and Fortuner in both petrol and diesel variant in India.
