Ford Motors has begun the production of its all-new Ford Fiesta at its manufacturing unit in Maraimalai Nagar, Chennai. The production commenced in the middle of June, 2011. The company has invested USD 72 million on expansion of its powertrain facility at the Maraimalai Nagar plant to increase its exports from the country.
The all-new Fiesta sedan will come with two engine options; 1.5 litre Ti-VCT petrol and Duratorq TDCi diesel. While the petrol variant will offer a mileage of 17 kmpl, the diesel variant will give a mileage of 23.5 kmpl. This four door sedan is expected to hit the Indian roads by the end of 2011.
Michael Boneham, President and Managing Director, Ford India, commented on the commencement of the Ford Fiesta production, “We are thrilled to see Ford’s latest world-class premium sedan rolling off the Chennai assembly line, continuing India’s emergence as a regional manufacturing hub for Ford.” He further added, “We are committed to growing our operations in Tamil Nadu and bringing new products to India in the coming years.”
