To cope with increasing input costs, German carmaker Volkswagen India on June 6th, 2011, announced its decision to hike the price of its Vento (diesel variant) by 2.2 % from July 1st, 2011. The petrol variant, priced between 6.99 lakh to Rs 9.22 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) will see no price hike.
Neeraj Garg, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt Ltd Member of Board & Director, stated since the input costs had not yielded over the past several months, the company had no choice but to increase the price of Vento (diesel variant). Currently, the diesel variant is available at a price range between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 9.24 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). He further added, since the customers who opted for petrol variant over diesel, were already facing the burden of increasing petrol prices, the company had therefore decided not to raise the cost of petrol Vento. He also added all the customers who book Vento before June 30th, 2011 will not be liable to the increased price hike.
VW also announced its decision to offer a reduced rate of 6.99% on selected variants of Vento (petrol) starting June, 2011 to promote its sales.
