Tata working on electric vehicles

Tata eMO EV

While Tata Motors has been experimenting with electric vehicles and hybrid systems, there is now strong evidence that suggests the Indian manufacturer is working on developing an electric vehicle. The news comes after French giant Dassault Systemes announced that they are providing back end software for design and development for an electric car to Tata Motors. Meanwhile, Tata Technologies says they are working with the French company to meet numerous designs and cost constraints, as well as create the targeted user experience, which includes a final vehicle to be developed with a price tag of under USD 20,000 or more than Rs 10 lakh. While Tata Motors has made similar announcements for Electric vehicle development in the past, we have still yet to see any major advancement up until now since they have joined forces with Dassault. We will just have to wait and see how fruitful the collaboration can be.

  1. It would be great if Tata Motors could develop an affordable electric/ hybrid car for the Indian market.
However they should take care not make the same mistake as Honda did, who when they introduced the Jazz in India (Fit in the USA) overpriced it with disastrous consequences.
Middle income families would happily purchase such a car from Tata (and not switch to another brand) if
    1) it costs Rs. 7-8 lakhs and
    2) there are no hassles with running/servicing such a vehicle under Indian conditions.

  2. I fail to understand why Indian automobile companies like Tata,M&M are yet to come out with a reasonably good electric car, when there is a huge demand for the same.

  3. We can provide a full design solution to this problem, the magical figure of 20,000 Dollars also can be achieved. Our previous approaches to explain this has fallen on deaf ears in TATS’s upper echelon. Surprisingly, they also, like most other Indian enterprises think that the answer lies some where abroad.

  4. To add to this, we are willing to take this as a challenging task to convert their existing range of vehicles, starting from Nano to High powered trucks in to a practical application and self motivated automobile. Independent of frequent recharging.

Let’s hope this reaches them in good faith and they revert with appropriate sincearity.
