Land Rover launched the Discovery Sport last year but only with diesel variants on offer. However, with the recent ban on diesel vehicles in Delhi/NCR and the narrowing gap between petrol and diesel prices, companies might have look towards launching a petrol derivative for all their models. Jaguar Land Rover has done just that and has introduced a petrol variant of the Discovery Sport in India, carrying a price tag of Rs 56.50 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Available only in the HSE trim, the new variant gets a 2.0-litre petrol powertrain. Previously, the SUV was only offered with TD4 and SD4 diesel engines, and in 4 different trim levels.
The Discovery Sport is the company’s most affordable SUV in the country and since it comes in a 5+2 layout it’s also one of the more practical offerings from the group in India. The petrol engine in the Discovery Sport is the same unit that comes with the Jaguar XE 25t -which develops 237bhp of maximum power and 340Nm of peak torque. Unlike the XE though, power is transferred via a 9-speed automatic gearbox in the SUV as opposed to an 8-speed auto. Power is sent to all wheels and the Discovery Sport can clock 0-100km/h in 8.2 seconds.
