Alto enrolled itself in Indian Auto history prominently when a silver Alto was rolled out the assembly line yesterday. It became the third car from Maruti’s stables to have attained these numbers after 800 and Omni.
The car sells about 20,000 units on an average every month. In November last year, this figure plummeted up to 22,784 units. And while apart from the three Maruti cars, Hyundai’s Santro is another brand to have crossed the 1 million mark, Alto crossed the line the fastest. A company statement said, “Alto has crossed the million units mark in just seven years and five months since its launch. Of this, the last 5 lakh units have been sold in last 25 months.” Alto’s top version Lxi outsells the standard and Alto Lx version.
