Ford beats Hyundai to become largest cars exporter

Indian arm of American car manufacturer Ford India has been quite good start of the financial year 2017-18, because Ford India has now become the country’s largest car exporter of cars. Export Ford India has been moving ahead of Hyundai for four consecutive months. Ford India exported 16,761 vehicles during May 2017 according to the data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). However, its export has declined on a monthly basis. Despite this, it is ahead of Hyundai.

Ford India MD Anurag Mehrotra said that Ford is more than India’s growth industry. Our focus is exporting domestic market as well. He said that we are committed to making stable and profitable business in India through our four strategic pillars – Strong Brand, Right Products, Competitive Cost and Effective Scale. Mehrotra said that the demand for Ford Ecosport, Figo and Aspire made in India is quite high.

Ford India has been continuously overturning to Hyundai exporting for four consecutive months. Ford India exported 16,761 vehicles in May, compared to 17,531 units a month ago while Hyundai exported 8,257 units in May 2017. The company’s exports have dropped by 30 per cent. At the same time, Ford India exported 72,376 units in the first five months of 2017, while Hyundai exported 50,678 units.

In the financial year 2016-17, Ford India had left behind the country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) in terms of exports and reached number two. Ford India exported 1.37 lakh units in the past 2016. Its exports grew by 39.2 per cent. At present, the company is exporting to more than 50 countries including ASEAN, Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Car companies registered decline in Export

Maruti Suzuki’s exports during the month stood at 6,175 units, which is 37.17 percent lower than the previous month. The company exported 6,687 units in April 2017. Nissan Motors India’s exports dropped 36.88 percent to 4,311 units.
